Camilo de Jesus Lopez was born in July 10 of 1937, the eighth child of Rafael (Pepe) and Emelinda (Flora) nee Herrera Lopez in Guajaca a town in the outskirts of San José de Las Matas (Santiago, Dominican Republic)

In the early 1960's, , Camilo immigrated to the United States with his older brothers Juanito and Domingo and they lived in the Bowery in lower Manhattan. He worked as an elevator operator, in the 1964 World's Fair, in Queens. In May 2, 1964, he married Martina, he returned to United States and later on that year, the first of his seven children, Eduardo Camilo was born in Guajaca. His experience has an elevator operator, gave him the opportunity get a job in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washinton Heights. He later moved to Inwood, which would be his home for most of his life and where he would raise his family.

He enjoyed life, and loved to dance Merengue
