August 29th 1954 - December 3rd 2008, Born in

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF ELDER HERMAN GOINS JR
Elder Herman Goins Jr was born on August 29th, 1954 to the parents of the late Herman Sr. and Benita Goins. He was the youngest of three, Deborah, who preceded him in death, and Beatrice. He was educated in the Chicago Public School System, attending Yale Elementary, Neal F. Simeon High School, and Olive Harvey College, majoring in Business. Herman worked for Inland Steel for 14 years, as well as American General Insurance, and Time Life Sales.
While in high school, he met the woman he was destined to marry, Diane Elizabeth Beasley. They were a part of the founding members of Simeon Gospel Choir, which spun off the Ambassadors for Christ singing group.
While in his senior year of high school, Herman attended a life changing revival service at Christ Temple Cathedral. After hearing a powerful sermon by the late Bishop O.W. McInnis, Herman accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior that night.
In June of 1974, Herman, and his high school sweetheart Diane were married and to this union three daughters were born; Tanisha Diane, Ilana Janelle', and Courtney Lynne'. His best friend and love of his life, Diane preceded him in death on November 20, 1999.
Herman accepted the call to ministry, and was ordained by the Churches of Christ (Holiness) in April of 1977. He was appointed Pastor of New Bethel in 1982 where he served as a faithful Pastor until 1990. He then served as an associate minister of Christ Temple No. 1 in Chicago Heights under the pastor ship of Elder Eric N. Cummings.
In August of 1994, Herman accepted the pastorate of Christ Temple Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where he and his family relocated. Under his tenure, the church flourished, starting a weekly gospel skating ministry, and a radio and prison ministry soon followed. "The Miracle on Early Street," as it was known was becoming a light in an area that once was plagued with darkness. Because of his love for children, and belief that there was no such thing as a “bad child” he was sought out to become a substitute teacher in the Montgomery County Board of Education. He was well known in Carver Jr. High, and Brewbaker Intermediate, where he was employed until having to retire in2007 because of his failing health.
Herman was often known to say he was the President and CEO of “Smoothness Personified”, and his character showed that daily. His love for life was only surpassed by his love for God and Ministry. He never lost faith or confidence in his
God and often would say “I know the God whom I serve, and He knows me”.
Herman made his transition home to be with his Lord on Wednesday December 3, 2008. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Tanisha, Ilana, and Courtney, his mother, Benita Goins, sister, Minister Beatrice A.
