Edgerton, Khia "K-Swift" - 29 - Baltimore, Maryland
October 19th 1978 - July 21st 2008, Born in Baltimore, Maryland

Khia Edgerton lovingly called the “Club Queen K-Swift” (October 19 1978-July 21 2008) was a popular radio personality, club DJ, and pioneer for Baltimore Club music.

K-Swift was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and always had a drive to create music. She shaped her love for music into a DJ career at the early age of 11. When she turned 18, she was offered an internship at Baltimore’s Radio One station: 92Q Jams. That internship quickly turned into a full time position producing shows, DJ-ing and eventually hosting. K-Swift’s job as a DJ on 92Q transformed her into a lady of many firsts. She became not only the station’s first female DJ but also the first female Club Music DJ for the whole city of Baltimore and later the only female Mix Show Coordinator in the country. Her night show from 6-10pm with on-air personality Reggie Reg became the number one night show in Baltimore.

Along with her full-time job with 92Q, K-Swift mixed at some of the hottest clubs and parties in Baltimore. Her specialty was Baltimore Club so along with rotating other people’s songs she also created her own beats. She did this all while simultaneously selling her mix tapes online and in stores. Some of her popular songs include “Handz Up Thumbs Down”, “Slide to the Left”, and “My Rydah Girls.”
And she was more than a DJ, she was also the proud owner of her own graphics, production, and management company: “Club Queen Entertainment”. In addition, K-Swift was a member of the Violator-All Star DJ Coalition, and the all female DJ group: Murda Mami’s.

A mass of text messages informed fans of her untimely death and the lines to her memorial services and viewings in Baltimore were miles long with distraught fans.
The Club music industry, 92Q and the whole city of Baltimore mourn the death of the Queen of Club music: K-Swift. All fans of her work seemed to either know her personally or had a friend that did. She was immensely popular in her hometown.

K-Swift had just performed at Baltimore’s annual Artscape the day before her death. She died of a head injury during a swimming accident. She was just 29 years old.
The beloved DJ had plans to showcase Baltimore’s Club music overseas in a series of shows and performances in January.
